I have searched this thread for an answer but couldn't find the exact response.
I have 2 x Pc's, both with Network Cards and 1 NTL Broadband (via set top box to USB port).
Can I 'connect' the 2 PC's (for internet access) without having to buy a router/hub?

Yes, by connecting the 2 PCs via the network cards with an Ethernet crossover cable and then turning on Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on the PC connected to NTL. The NTL PC would have to be switched on for the other PC to share its internet connection. See http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/ for more about NTL, STB and USB.
With a router each computer could use the internet independently of the other.0
