Commenting on the latest Index results, Stephen Watson, Managing Director, Agency Express, said: "After a pretty slow start to the year it appears that the British public is not prepared to sit around and wait any longer.

Whilst we expected February to be a better month for house sales than January, the levels we have seen have exceeded our expectations.

It appears that the growing economic optimism has permeated the housing market and people are now making the decision to move.

We are now seeing house sales nearly match those we last saw two years ago and the strength of activity bodes well for the coming months"

Looks like 2010 is shaping up to be a good year.:D

Yes it`s looking great. Talk to most of the independent business folk I know. It`s looking terrible.
  • As a shortage of properties has held the market up, an increase in houses for sale is likely to result in price drops, no?

It depends if there is an increase in demand to match the increase in supply.

I suspect if there isnt and people start struggling to sell again, they'll just decide not to sell until supply falls short of demand and things hold up again.

Don't underestimate the reluctance of people to reduce the price of their most precious asset, and don't pin too many hopes on forced sales bringing the market down (unless interest rates shoot up dramatically).

They were apparently up by 136% acording to the press release http://www.mortgagesolutions-online.com/mortgage-solutions/news/1594436/february-house-sales-rocket-agency-express so presumably over 110,000 Feb sales when we get the stats.

I'm a 'waiting for the numbers' kinda guy (PMI) surveys have hardly been anywhere near reality for the last year or so.

Strange, their report archive seems only to go back to last June.....

That's a pity; their reports for 2008 might make more interesting reading!indifferent0020.gif
