We have about the same idea as you, we have just started saving up for our wedding which we have just booked for October 2011, so far i have about £700 lol and h2b is out of work at the moment to. I have just paid the £250 deposit for the venue (having ceremony, reception etc all in the same place) this comes to about £3500 in total inc food & drink, half of which we have to pay 6 months b4 the wedding.

if you are having a civil ceremony on approved premises i would enquire now, i emailed this week just to check what times i could have for my ceremony and all they had was 12.30  so i put my name down for that straight away. I was expecting for them to give me a few options with it being 17 months away but no they get booked up 2 years in advance.

I am also looking into photographers now and will put a deposit down for that asap as some get booked up quickly.

I think for me those are the main things to get arranged, i will do the other stuff closer to the time when i have some money, i have worked out i can save £500 a month at a push from my own money as long as h2b gets a job soon. then obviosuly h2b can give me some extra out of his wages to go towards it to. Im going to make sure i have enough to pay the venue, my dress etc and put this away in a savings account and then spend the rest as i go along....it might not work that way with everyone but thats how im going to do it, i dont really want to spend anymore than £8000 tops

omg that dress is gorgeous and soo cheap for jane norman! id never thought of looking there thinking itd be too dear

the way i worked out out budget was to see how much we could comfortably put away each month
im on a DMP which will end in jan, thats £300/month so i multiplied that by how many months left til our wedding date, minus a couple of months because of final payments wanting to be settled, and came up with the whole budget
we then have to make sure everything we want-traditional style but the same venue all day-comes under that budget
I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p

we arent getting wed til 2012 due to us saving and not wanting to use any thing like credit to pay for stuff. we arent putting away that much a month either

our budget was abpprox £3000-i make alot of things so this was a big saving, shopping around for things etc when we worked out what were saving it worked out at £5000 so we have decide to maybe do a honeymoon which we werent originally planning but it may inlcude the kids aswell

cars wise i dont want to spend a couple hundred quid on a car to take me to one place sot that would be that amount for approx 25 mins!! Instead was looking at getting my sis to use her bmw but now im thinkning its cheaper for me to stay ta the hotel the night before rather then pay for car and oh has already said hes going to drive as we will need the car the enxt day to bring everything home lol

entertainment-you can find a dj for £100-150 but its hard knowiing if any good im leaving this to my mum as was doing my head in lol

our venues only £1500 and thats to include a 3 course meal for 50 and buffet for 100 then extras like glass of bucks fizz, linen, cake stand and own personalied knife, red carpet welcome, menus etc.

flowers im buying fake ones from micheal dark (google that one as not sure of how to spell it) on there they do all flowers, vases all that stuff so its costing me £40 to do my flowers, bm x2 and 9 table centres were hvaing hot pink and white gerberas and table centres are going to be square vases (£1.20 somethng each) on mirror plates (same as vases) with ice stuff in water and floating gerbera with scatter crystals round the plate

im making invites, table names ,placecards, table plan etc so juts paying for paper.

i always wanted a church wedding but got a family member to find out how much it was at our church he quoted £600+!!! our reg office is £45 but to get marrid at venue its £305 this has annoyed me but the reg office is tiny (alot of fam got wed there) and was so cramped so im having to deal with paying the £305! also giving notice is £30 each,

it all depends on what you want and if you ahve the time to shop about ive spent every night online the past couple months looking for deals and also a friend is getting wed couple months later and weve been swapping deals lol

also dress wise im risking buying a china copy for £100 so saving ££££ there but im ordering approx a yr in advance to make sure its ok !

and cake either getting the iced one from tesco/asda-asda only do fruit tesco do fruit and madera so now im making my own either cupcake tower to 3 glittery tiers of sponge and chocolate so instead of costing £300+ costing approx £30 lol

fly dragon fly - I saw it and immediately loved it, my bridesmaids are all going to try it on this week and send me pictures :D

We have DJ sorted now for free :) They are good friends of OH

We're also thinking of more May than July now, the weather patterns are too good to ignore!

  • May is a good month to get married (but then I'm biased!) as you have bank holidays. Also honeymoons are probably marginally cheaper as you're outside of school holiday periods.

We'd still have to wait until school holidays for the honeymoon as I work term time only. Unless I'm doing a different job by then. But we'd probably have a long weekend away or go away in the half term which usually falls on the last week of May for a few days.

Decided to use this thread to keep it all together

What do you think of this as a bridesmaid's dress?
