A debt has just landed on my doormat from sky thats been taken over by lowell group for £118 thats from about 9 years ago. My friend said i dont have to pay debts that are from over 7 years ago, is this true? Does anyone know?

Your friend is thinking about statute barred debts. If you haven't paid towards the debt for over 6years, or acknowledged in writing that you owe the money for 6years and providing there is no CCJ the debt would be statute barred. Here is a factsheet about SB debts -

If you think the debt is SB you need to send the letter to say you know its SB and don't intend to pay -after that they should not chase you for it anymore, until you send such a letter they are allowed to chase.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
6 years and the debt is usually statute barred. Have you acknowledged the debt at all during the past 6 years?
If not, I will find a letter you can send to them, don't sign it, just type your name.

As above if no payment or acknowledgement to the debt in writing for a period of 6 years, the debt is statute barred (even if you acknowledge it after it going SB)

And report them to the OFT, or someone, ask about who to complain to someone will know
