trying to think the best way of telling you all what I am up to for a sideline and to earn some much needed money without it coming out as advertising, which I suppose it is. will say it is websites, full seo, design, hosting and advertising etc. and less than a week to do...

yes its a .co.uk but it keep saying invalid domain contact???

Could you search for it on 123 reg and see if they think it is available?

You could transfer it across to namecheap after you've bought it if you wanted.

For .co.uk you need to state if you are a company or individual etc... maybe thats whats wrong?

I think that it usually asks for this info as you are checking out, but if the domain is showing in your account click on the name and at the bottom of that page is a bit that says

information for .co.uk domains

then

Legal Type of Registrant Contact and a drop down box?

Cool, munchki But don't think you have sidetracked us - we still want the mechanic story!

Fan page now has 40 fans and people are having a little experiment in the discussion tab. So hopefully it will keep going and grow. I can see it taking a fair bit of time though as I'll have to keep on the ball and keep content fresh if it flags. Hopefully a good tool though.
