Naming Ceremony Norwich, Norfolk

Hi there,

I need some help...

I am trying to organise a naming ceremony for all for of my children, however I could really use some help with this!!

I've seen a big viliage hall in Horsford which has it's own bar and hires for about £175 I think. There will be around 50people children and adults so I kinda wanted there to be a bar to keep adults amused but didn't want to pay for alcoholic drinks myself!

I'm toying with the idea of a DJ but the ones i've had quotes for at the mo have been around £200 odd for a couple of hours!

Am I being really cheap?! or is this a lot of money?
We are already conducting the ceremony ourselves to save money and doing our own buffett too..

For the cake, we were thinking of just getting one of those photo cakes with a pic of all 4 little ones on it.. do you think that sounds tacky?

Any advise from anyone who has done this already would be much appreciated and any tips to help with keeping costs down like alt. venues, practical suggestings for keeping both kids and adults entertained, decorations, food etc, etc.. would be brilliant!!!

Have been to several naming ceremonies. Most have been held in the grounds of a pub with a ceremony followed by a buffet. I've never been to one that had a dj or any paid entertainment.

    I'd keep it simple ;)

Ps - are you renaming the children or are they keeping the names they've got?

They are keeping the names they have!!

The reason for this is to celebrate that we have now finished the section of our lives having babies, as Che is our last. We like the idea of 'godparents' but neither of us are religious, so we are having a naming day or a welcome to the world/family day whatever you wish to call it(!) to celebrate the fact that our family is now complete and to give them each a 'guardian parent' much like a godparent

This is instead of a christening etc..

We were also thinking of getting married at the same time, but money is desparately tight, this yr is our 10th anniversary together, so thought that It may be special to get wed and have the kids day all in one... But I just don't know.. I would love it to be a really special day but don't just want a registary office and nothing IYKWIM?!

I can't explain it, I don't want anything too over the top or expensive but I also don't want it all to look really cheap and tacky either, it's a day that we'd want to remember for the rest of our lives for all the right reasons (I know its not all about the 'extras', but I want it to feel special for me (and him obviously!) and a registary office and nothing else just doesn't do it for me :()

Bit different if there's a wedding as well.

If you really want entertainment like a dj or something, maybe just get a CD player and some powerful speakers or something? might be better as it can be reused as well then. just get cds and stuff to play.

Any particular reason you chose horsford? i know of other places as well that are a bit cheaper than that.. but depends on your location i guess. (as im from norfolk myself lol)

We live in Taverham, so Horsford is close.. it also has it's own bar which cuts costs on drinks etc as everyone would buy their own, but any alt. suggestions for the venue would be appreciated (as we've not booked yet as still sorting the actual date out!) esp. if it has its own bar!:)
