Credit report

Hi,

I was very immature and stupid when i was 18 and racked up credit cards and store cards and didnt care about paying them back. Subsiquently i now have "bad" credit. I am 24 now and have paid off everything that was owed and have a good steady job. I have checked my report on experian and its classed as "fair" with a score of 736. I have 4 'defaults' and a CCJ.

Im unsure as to who i am supposed to contact to enquire about removing defaults on my report. Is it the original company that gave me the 'credit' or is it the debt collection agency, or am i supposed to contact the head offices etc?

I am aware that there is a slim chance they will be removed, but it is worth a try. Im stuck with renting and want to buy asap.

Thanks!

I believe that you have to wait for 6 years until they drop off, unless you have a very good reason to have them removed, like they were placed in error.

    Hi Jowet

If they were put there correctly (as in you did default and they did send you default notices) then you will almost certainly have to wait until they are 6years old for them to drop off your credit file.

Are the default debts paid? and are they showing as satisfied? If you have paid them but they do not show as satisfied then ask whoever you paid (presumably the dca) to mark them as satisfied.

If they are not paid then you could try writing to negotiate to pay them and have the default removed, but this is unlikely to happen (again contact whoever is chasing you for payment).

As pp`s have said they will remain on there for 6 yrs from the date the default was set.
If they have been put in error then they can be removed but it sounds as if you did default if you didnt pay things back when younger!
You could contact and ask for them to be put as satisified as they have been paid!

You now need to improve your credit score by showing your a good payer i will post a link on how to do so.http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/credit-rating-credit-score#vote

Thanks for the feedback. Yes all the debts are paid off and marked as 'satisfied'... however looking at the default date, they are all set pretty much at the beginning of 2006, which means i would have to wait another 2 years before i had a good chance of getting a mortgage.

Things are bit of a blur back then but im pretty sure i got notices for all 4 defaults. I was kind of relying on writing a letter for 'proof' of default and if they couldnt provide it, then arguing i wasnt aware and fight to have it removed. I thought there might be some template letters or examples on this website a bit like reclaiming bank charges but doesnt seem there is.

looks as though i will have to wait

    Thanks

You could try writing and asking, nothing to lose and you never know they may do it as a gesture of goodwill!

2 years will fly by if not, and gives you 2 years to save for when you buy :)
