Its easy to become obsessed with ebay when you are selling.
Could you have a break from it completely for a while?
The trouble with paypal is you can bid on something anyway and then not be able to actually authorise payment with paypal because you dont have the password.
How about you be the seller and OH the buyer? Then if you see something you think is great value, you have to ask OH to look at it and bid ,then he can say yes or no.
You can stop automatic bank payment on your paypal account by deleting the DD in your bank details(I did this by mistake) then it has to use a credit card to pay with and I believe you can remove the credit card details via paypals site. Then you could accept payments but not pay anybody yourself.
The only way to pay anyone then is to add funds via a bank account which takes 7-9 days (just incase you have to reimburse a buyer).0 -
is it the thrill of buying something off ebay, or the thrill of recieving it? i went through a phase of buying things of ebay ....just for the sake of it...books etc.....as soon as i opened them, that was it.... thrill gone..... but i learned it was the excitment of recieving something through the post rather than the dreaded bills.. or final reminders etc....when i found mse... it was brill... the first section that i was allways on was the freebies.....i would send away for the freebies....vouchers etc.... it was brill.....as i had something coming through the post neally every day, and that broke the habbit of buying on ebay..i was on the mse freebie site all the time waiting and looking for freebie bargins....it totally distracted me from buying on ebay.....i sell a lot on ebay, but now the only regular things i buy on ebay are money off voucehers....
try it you got nothing to lose, and its not going to cost you a penny.....Work to live= not live to work0 -
If you empty your paypal account frequently and immediately transfer your money to another account, that should prevent you from spending the money on ebay, because then you won't have it. But that is only an emergency fix.
You will have to improve yourself to try to eradicate this defect. ebay and paypal are only a forum and a tool for trading. They are not the cause of the problem.
For example, I never gamble. I would walk into a betting shop and walk right out again, and if I were invited to join in a poker game I would turn it down. But there are others who could not do this, and get themselves and their families into all sorts of difficulties.
Have you tried hypnotherapy? To buy or not to buy, need not be in question

Bill ,you can still bid on things even if the paypal account is empty.
Mine uses a bank account so it's a bit like having a paypal instant money machine. OP might have one like that especially as she is a seller too .0 -
I agree that the problem might be that you need stuff that'll keep you away from the computer. Does your local church, library or community centre have a parent & baby group you could join, or could you have an informal playgroup with other parents you know? If the ebaying is because you actually need stuff, try freecycle, gumtree or similar swap websites, if not try going cold turkey! Being a SAHM can be really demanding, so try replacing ebay with other me-time type activities - pampering sessions, relaxing with a book/music, going for a walk. There are often other reasons behind overspending, like boredom, stress or even post-natal depression, so be honest with yourself about your feelings, and make sure that your OH knows how you feel and don't be afraid to ask for support. Good luck with the food challenge, and let us know how it's going!2015 comp wins - £370.25

Hi Culpepper, nice to meet you again.
If you read the posting again you will see that I say that you then shift the money from the paypal linked account into another account that is not linked to paypal. I am sorry I did not make it clear. I accept that there may be the snag of an overdraft facility which may cause more problems than doing nothing at all. In my case, my paypal linked account does not have an overdraft facility, not that I have this kind of compulsion. I have others...

Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0

The problem with Ebay is that it soooo adictive. I got so bad that my DH changed the Paypal password so that I have to go through him if I buy something and 9 times out of 10 it aint worth the hassle!0
