in Cutting tax
Hello all, we moved into our newly built home in 2006. Since then we have been put in council tax band D, our house is a 2 bedroomed property the 2nd room being a box room and all in all the floor space is small. We have shared courtyard at the rear of the property, on street parking and have made no updates to the property since moving in.
The houses opposite are larger 3 bedroomed properties with gardens, they also have on street parking but some have garages that are accessable from the street behind them. These properties are in council tax band B.
I have contacted our local VOA office, firstly I was told that the council tax band we are in was almost definately incorrect, but when our case was referred to a listings office the result was that it was correct due to our properties being newer.
I cannot believe that even if our properties were brand new in April 1991 that they would be valued between £68,001 to £88,000, does anyone have any advice even if it's just to say you think it's all correct and I'm wasting my time? Thanks in advance

See if any of the 3 beds opposite sold in 2006 and how sale price compares with your purchase price and if any subsequent sales of either house type. As VOA have already said band correct you will have quite a task persuading them otherwise and it could be difficult trying to find 91 sale prices of houses like yours. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
