Never, ever join an agency that charges a fee, or charges you to take photographs.
Your best bet would be Contacts - a book which lists all agencies. I would check them out before joining.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I looked into this with my first DD, the pay is not good, you have to travel and it is a lot for a child to cope with. Ring a couple of agencies and ask for their advice. Reputable ones will be honest about prospects.0

think about it wisely - my friend ended up spending shed loads on petrol and hotels to take her and her little boy to auditions around the country for 18mths. He was really cute and excellent in front of the camera - but where was the quality of life. they spent valuable 'their time' in the car or waiting in the queue with hundreds of other kids waiting to photographed and sent on their way.
personally i think life is too short, in your shoes I would go the park and have fun together cos give my daughter a few years and she will want to play with her mate or chat on MSN and if im lucky go the park with me, if i'm not dressed in an embarrassing way!!!
good luck with the agency hunt

First off get yourself a copy of Contacts which lists numerous agents (but just because they’re in there doesn’t mean that they’re okay, Google them, ask around, even phone them for a meeting before you send in your kids photos) Avoid adverts in local papers and loot etc while some might be ‘real’ agents most are just scammers.
It also lists photographers, most of the agents like having their now photos taken (and paid for out of the booking fee) but you’ll still need a stock of black and white 8x10s to send off. Go with a photographer that has experience with young children as he/she will get the best result (don’t be swayed with the photos of famous people on the photographers web site).
I've been told that this is a good book for child modelling
Many will try to charge you an up front fee, don’t pay it as these are illegal. They will probably take a cut out of your childs first pay-packet (don’t be surprised if out of £300 your left with less than £50 the first time). After the ‘booking fee’ (or whatever they’ll call it) is paid the agent will take a commission out of everything, anything between 15% and 30% depending on the agent.
And then there’s the driving. You will get very well acquainted with motorways and/or trains.
And early mornings
If hes outgoing, why not try to get him into Sylvia Young’s?:j Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus :j0 -
Elisabeth Smith child modellling agency is one of the top agents in the uk, they are based on Harrow, London. All of the child agents do charge a fee for going on their books and tale 20% of earnings. But pay is good. All three of my children were with Elisabeth Smith and did photographic modelling as well as TV adverts and Cinema adverts and my daughter also appeared in Eastenders. They also do family modelling where we had some good jobs. It is important that your child enjoys it and you must remember that sometimes you may be called for a audition or job the same day so you need to be able to take your child . Good luckCompetitions wins 2010

do you have to live in and around the london area to be on Elisabeth Smith child modellling agency books the reason i ask is i sent a picture of my son to the bbc they told me they would use him for many things but had to go through a certain agency they said they would love to take him on but as we live no where near london they could not as many jobs are short notice and we are to far away. LOVE LIFE PROCEED & PROGRESS0 -

I wouldnt touch the ES agency with a barge pol, fabwich was lucky her childrens got lots of work, my daughter only ever got 2 jobs in 2 years and every time I rung up they said there was nothing available (just like a job agency). I spend nearly £400 in fees over that 2 years and my daughter only earned roughly £50
Agencies tend to have their 'favourites' who get to cherry pick the best castings when they are made available
Edit: maka if you pm me I will let you have a models handbook that I received when I joined my daughter up, even if you dont go with that agency its good to just get a rough idea of the industry.0 -
You have to be able to get into central London within one hour. But when we moved to Brentwood we still stayed with the agency. Most agents like you to be close to London because jobs and auditions often come up at the last minute and need children to be able to get there quickly. If you do not want to go with a child modelling agency you could get join an extras agency also fot TV work.Competitions wins 2010
