CSA can never find the NRP...

In my case the CSA has periodically (when I've requested it) looked for the NRP of my now 15-year-old.

For the first few years (he's been absent since year 0) they decided that he was 'habitually resident in another country' basically because that's what the NRP's mother told them - he wasn't he was living in the UK with extended holidays in another country (while I studied full-time and worked full-time hours to support our child).

Since then they say they simply can't find him. Even when I was once able to provide his employer's name and address. He was then claiming benefit for some time, and they still couldn't find him.

In recent years I have been able to provide full name, DOB and rough area of residence, but not precise address. They say they still can't find him.

My son feels quite aggrieved at both the non-contact and the non-payment, but I don't know what else to do. Why can't the CSA locate him??

I guess they need an address so they can write to him...

Are you still in touch with the NRP's mother?

Do you know of his whereabouts at the moment?

You'd think if he's been claiming benefits they'd have had an idea! That's just ridiculous....

I can't offer any advice. But I just want to say 'don't give up'. You deserve some help for raising your son, and he has an obligation to do so!

If he doesn't work for a legit company (ie works cash in hand) and has no assets which can be traced to him, nor is he registered at an address for council tax, it will be virtually impossible to find him I'm afraid.

MY OH has had the same issue we traced him easily using the Electoral roll, but were told by the CSA they couldn't use that info as it was "hearsay" and they didn't have access to such tools.
And of course it didn't help that he returned their letters marked "not known"

My wife is being paid child maintenance under the old courts system.

A couple of years ago, her ex decided to up & move address without informing anyone & subsequently stopped paying maintenance thinking he couldn't be traced.

She was told by the court officer that they were not allowed to look for people via the electoral roll, but she could do it herself & provide them with any new information.

After a year or so, she eventually traced him via the electoral roll & informed the court. They were more than happy to receive this information, & acted fairly quickly in bringing him back to court & she eventually received all arrears due.

My point is, if the courts can use this information, then why not the CSA?

Did you receive this decision in writing or over the phone? If over the phone, then I would request confirmation in writing & that may urge them to rethink & perhaps act on the information you provided.

You were told absolute rubbish, Honest_broker07. The CSA can follow up information from any source when tracing an NRP's whereabouts, and they use the Experian credit reference which shows if a person is on the electoral roll at a certain address! They can also ask the local authority if a person is registered for council tax.
