I think that is a little heavy de1amo. I get what your saying, we have stitched our selves up. But we still have a lot to offer as a country.
The problem is, we teach other developing nations how to do stuff, give the EU or whoever money to help, then the developing country invests in it correctly and tbecome better at producing it. Cars and other engineering work has left the UK and its our fault.
We are to obsessed with working in an office behine a computer and living the sex in the city life style.
This may sound extreme, but I think one of the issues is when woman went out to full time work. All of a sudden we were buying houses from the council and wanted bigger and better things. İf you watch the world oppinion of the British economy from outside the british media our rating and future is a pretty bleak one---the bloomberg news channel has repeated overseas experts downgrading our solvency and long term outlook--they quote our main revenue earners as dwindling--oil and the city--unless we see another Maggie visionary to produce a re-invention of ourselves they see a poor future--we never caused industry to go abroad-we over priced our labour rate and couldnt compete--we had a lot of industrial upset when maggie came to power--much like now---they shot themselves in the foot then and seem to be doing the same again--eg BAmfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

There are areas of the country where houses are affordable at less than 3 x average salary. I recently offered £46K (and was accepted) for a 3 bedroom property that was marketed at just over £48K for example. Another offer came in and my subsequently revised offer of £50K was not accepted.
January mortgage approvals fall. What a surprise! Why didn't people take advantage of the wonderful ice and snow to go looking for new homes over the festive period?
Yes, house prices are stupid. However, they are not as stupid as the people paying the stupid prices.
Herd mentality will ensure that the monthly data swings up and down. the interesting data is found in the longer term trends.

That does not help down in the south though. Salary figures are not as different as the cost of living.

Yes, people in the south would appear to be more stupid than their northern brethren.

Is this not partially explained by the weather, the fact that people don't move just before an election and also the fact that people are struggling just after Xmas? I know it won't answer it all and there will be a slow down again probably, but surely this headline figure is not quite as bad as it sounds?0
