Claiming Discounts after Purchase

Hi,
Hoping somebody can help me with this. At sometime in the past seem to remember a radio program or a TV program about claiming back money on something that you had already bought.
I have purchased something that was very expensive and within a few days of buying it i discovered that it was reduced in a sale significantly.
Are there laws in place whereby its possible to claim the difference between what i paid for it and the discounted price its been reduced to now?
I seem to remember that you can do this but only within a limited time after purchase.
If this is true how do i / where do i find the rules / laws about this and how to go about claiming the money back.

I think the only way around that would be a full refund and then to rebuy but using the discount you have. But I'd very much doubt there are any laws and would go as far as to say that any refund is at the managers discretion, i.e if the item is not faulty they are within their rights to deny a refund.
Most stores just want to keep on good terms with the customer and so will in most cases refund and then let you rebuy, but not all, some may see that they can easily resell at full price (thus retain their profits) and so may refund but not let you rebuy with the discount or refuse refund all together. Most stores strive for good customer service as a large amount of their reputation depends on it, but theres always one!
Guess the only way you'd know is to ask them.
BTW, Which store is it?0
