Floss, the co went bust just about overnight, the staff got no real warning they all turned up for work one Monday morning and couldn't get into the offices then they all got phone calls saying sorry but the co was out of business. The union has been trying to get all the staff some redundancy but so far nothing has come of it.

That happened to my sister, she worked for First Advice, (part of the accident group) and she got told she was losing her job by text message!! Because TAG went into liquidation she was able to claim some redundancy from the DTI, it took about 6 months to come through and it wasn't a lot of money but it might be something positive for your cousin to look into when she comes out of hospital.

I hope she gets better soon.

I think that you are doing so well trying to sort it all out.
Your cousin can still get her Incapacity while in hosp.
When she is feeling a wee bit better consider sorting out a claim for DLA.
Ward staff could fill in a section of form but get speciali.st help wth rest of form.
Bankrupcy could be a good option.
Your cousin should be able to open a basic bank account for benefits to go into.
Can you arrange for anyone to cancel DD/SO on her existing account so there are no more chages meantime.
You are doind a great job at the mo.

you know as someone who's been that low before (granted different circumstances) my heart breaks for your cousin to feel that bad. one concilation is that by the sounds of it it was a cry for help rather than a serious attempt. i know that'll sound heartless but i promise it's not. in my experience if someone truly wishes to end their life they do, there are rarely pure miracles. like i say thats a good thing! i presume she hadn't told any of you the truth about her debt? and i also presume she felt like she couldnt, probably for fear of letting her family down.

her mental problems are nothing anyone can help with i'm afraid. tho i hope she heals quickly.

i'd maybe suggest speaking to a lawyer, if she is totally refusing to speak etc her mental state can obviously be questioned and surely her folks can act as next of kin without her approval when she is this way...

i was thinking of bankrupcy while reading this, is there anyway of getting the benefits paid into a parents bank account or collected from the post office. iirc they dont HAVE to be paid into an account but it is the preffered method of payment.

    good luck xx
