Hi
I am planning a Manchester/North Cheshire wedding for July 2012.
I am not too keen on having my reception in a chain hotel, as it doesn't really feel like 'me', although I'm sure i'll probably end up falling in love with somewhere like that....
I'm looking for an 'unusual' type venue - a farm, or a barn, or a mill.
Really, I want somewhere with a big outdoor area, that will allow me to have my own bbq caterers, and wont charge me corkage !
Anyone in the north west know of any fab locations ??

Hey Kimberley
Did you get my PM? Aside from that (as I don't think the places I mentioned suit what you're after) have you tried this place (cant post links) but google Sandhole Oaks Farm and it'll come up/
Have you thought about hiring a holiday cottage for your reception? Not sure if it'd work, but it might be a possibility?0 -

Also Kimberley, what about Heaton House Farm? You can't bring in your own caterers, but their approved caterers can do a BBQ for you?
One more thought from me and then I'm off (!): what about Hartington Hall? It's a Youth Hostel, so is definitely 'unusual' but it doesn't allow own caterers/drinks and it is in Buxton, so it falls down on those criteria. May be worth a look. Good luck!0 -
I know that the Sandhole oak farm is £4700 alone without anything included no chairs or tables we looked at that and that really put us off. I don't know what sort of budget you have so thought I would tell you before you got too excited.

Oh dear - that's way out of our budget !
I don't want to spend more than 3,500 on the ENTIRE reception really !A - Z Challenge

Not quite what you have asked for, but might help someone else if not your cup of tea. The John Alker Centre in Flixton is an Ex-servicemen's club, charge £100 +£100deposit. The room can seat 200/250 plus dance floor and stage. There's a separate room for catering, has a bowling green and a huge park across the road. Not exactly picturesque but a fantastic money saver. They have a bar and will charge a corkage fee, but at £100 for the night, that will leave a good sum for a stonking band and decorations!
We've booked it for later this year and are made up that we can invite so many people without having to pay a fortune.
