SSP and half pay?

If someone has been off sick for say 1 month, and will be expected to remain off for some time, they would be paid SSP.
But what if their employer agrees to pay them at half pay (ie. half a month's pay)? Does this mean they are not entitled to SSP, or just paid for half?

They would still get SSP (employers are obliged to pay this, with a few exceptions) so part of the half pay would be comprised of SSP. Employers have no choice as to whether they pay SSP, or at what rate they pay it.
So say your half pay rate is £200 per week - SSP would be £79.15 of this amount and the employer would be paying £120.85.0 -
Sorry ictquizzer, but E/R's can opt out of the SSP scheme- provided the payments they make are equal or better than SSP. The E/R still needs to issue forms SSP1 etc and keep records.0

Thanks both.
So if say the employee's monthly pay for February was £1000, and were off sick from 15th Febwill this mean:
1st two weeks of Feb (normal pay) £500
3rd week - SSP (including waiting days) £31.66
4th week - SSP (normal) £79.15
PLUS half pay for weeks 3 & 4 (less SSP?) £114.19
Would the above be the right way to go about it?

Yes that sounds correct to me.0 -
NHS payroll would always pay half pay PLUS SSP (as long as this does not equal more than normal full pay)
so you would get paid for 2 weeks at half pay (eg £250)
PLUS 2 weeks SSP (less 3 waiting days)
Not sure if all employers would work it this way though.0
