Just retired at 60 years old

I would like to ask:
1. Just retired in October 09

2. I am still working around 38/hrs a week under a P/T contract(20/hrs contract).

3. I have been with the same company for the last 4 years in which I have been promoted with no additional contract but can be seen on the wageslips (increase salary).

4. I have been fractured the leg and 1 week (5 working days) I've had a doctors aproval to stay indoors (under doctor's certificate presented at work).

5. The company did not pay the week(5 sick days) even with the right certificate from the doctor.

Questions:

1. Am I getting paid from the company where I work??? or from the Dept of Pensions???

2. Why the company's accountant told me that I am not entitled to paid sick days unless is less than 3 days?? I was under the impresion that part-timers and full-timers are entitled to the same things....

3. Why did the company asked me to bring the Certificate?

What should I do now??? I am short 1 week's money...

Many thanks in advance:A

Congratulations in retiring at 60. I will be 66 at least and only have the state pension to look forward to. You are blessed.

This is either an employment problem or a benefit problem - not really a pension question. Other boards might be of more help to you.

    Hi there Chesky,

    ??????
My situation? You're shocked? I'm mystified.
  • As an employer we do not pay out staff if off sick regardless of whether they are 16 , 46 or 66
If you put in your Doctors note I guess you will be entitled to SSP from day 4 onwards
    SO
your work does not pay you nor does the Dept of pensions
I`m now officially too old to die young

the first three working days are waiting days so you do not get paid for them.
This is the same for everyone.

Your employer should pay you at least SSP after this as long as you keep giving them sick notes from the doctor.

Depending on the size of your company they can claim it back from the DWP

I dont understand that you say you are retired at 60 and in the next sentence you say you are still working so you are Not retired.

I presume you are male. (not that it should make a difference but some compannies are not aware of some sex discrimation laws re retirement age)
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    Hi there McKneff,

Thank you very much for the tips.
    To answer your questions:

    1. ...talking about female here...:D
    2. ....Having to much energy not to work :j....as the Credit Cards will not let any of us resting even at this age..

    3. If the age is right and the working years are matching, then I am entitled to the state pension but why not keep working...being a grandmother why no trying to keep the kids happy....at the moment I am just trying ...after all the bills, food, house payments, which seems to destruct the human being even if they are kept to the minimum..I keep trying my best all by myself.

May God Bless everyone and help us all in this fight to be alive.

    D1.

from what I understand once you reach state pension age you do not get ssp as that is dependant on you paying national insurance contributions (info I got given from Incapacity benefit) and you at state pension age stop paying contributions.
