Stories/Poems-how can i make money?

Hi guys,

I work part time in an office & husband about to be made redundant. I cant up my hours as have 2 children so am trying to think of ways i can make a bit more money in the evenings/weekends. I have always had a bit of a flair for creative writing-short stories, poetry, etc and wondered if anyone knew if i could try & make some money through this & if so how do i start?! Also someone once mentioned blogs-how does this pay & how do you start?

Hope someone can help as surveys & mystery shops aren't my bag!! LOL

I'd like to get into something along those lines as well. I write a lot so I'm pretty sure I would be able to make some extra cash from writing but I'm not sure how to start. Obviously, there's always writing letters to magazines that give £20 if they publish your letter and things like that but that's about all I know of really.

You can certainly make money writing, however my example is not as fun as poetry or similar!
I regularly pay for short product / service related articles from freelance writers.
If you can research and write 500-1000 word articles quickly and competantly on boring subjects you will find work, there are many freelance websites about.

For example i paid £5 for a 500 word article comparing adjustable beds with fully flexible bases to those with 3 point slatted bases - compelling stuff huh!

To be able to make any money you need to able to do this quickly - I am not illiterate and could have wrote this myself but writing about anything im not passionate about takes me ages.

I made a website called Libboo - https://www.libboo.com - you cant sell your stuff just yet but i am making that functionality right now. I am a researcher at MIT at the moment (i'm British, but hey! this is where technology happens!) and it's one of my pet projects to see if there is a way to change the publishing industry and make it fairer to aspiring authors.
