£1 overdrawn but getting charged £5 a day,can i get charges droped do you think

hi, i have had my a&l bank account nearly 2 years and never gone overdrawn..2 weeks ago i did but they droped the charge ,they said they are allowed to drop a charge once a year,,but now i have just found out i went £1 overdrawn again and i am being charged £5 for each day i am overdrawn..it is sickening just for £1...do you think i will be able to get them to drop the charges as i am very shy and find it hard to speak on the phone or in person.i only have my benefits at the moment so will sruggle to eat after this charges.thanks

  • You can always ask. Be bold!!! I used to have an account with A&L That gave you a £20 lea-way if you only did it occasionally. It happened to me once and when I phoned they took off the charges.

    Try and get two accounts, one for your bill payments and another for the rest of your spending, so that you avoid going overdrawn by deposits and Direct Debits not happening on the right dates.

    OFT lost in the high court over bank charges, so it is down to the 'goodwill' of the bank to drop it.

    If they don't, i can only advise you put more money into your account to prevent going into an unauthorised overdraft and incurring more charges.
    Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
