Adult Apprenticeships

Just a question about the Apprenticships.org.uk website.
It says that there are 3 groups, one being age 25+ so I was wondering, does this mean I can just go ahead and apply for any of the vacancies on there in my chosen field or do I need to find out which allow my age group, which is 25+
Thanks... any other knowledge about this kind of thing would be great too

An apprenticeship is an apprenticeship regardless of age. Its just the funding comes from a different pot.
If I remember correctly though - somewhere in the archives of my brain - I think I heard they were phasing out adult apprenticeships so better be quick.
Mind you I could be wrong

Yeh I think I heard the same thing
however I get different answers when I call places and ask what my options are! I called one training place and they said they don't offer them but to call back in a few weeks?! Altho it said on their website "we now offer adult apprenticeships" ... weird.
I'm actually wondering whether it would be best to volunteer and just enrol on a distance learning course myself... only problem then of course is no money coming in
Bah humbug

You need to be talking to your local college. A lot would depend on which field you are wanting to go into as to whether they support it or not. Find that out and you will have an idea which area to look at.Mags - who loves shopping0

Good luck, my college has run out of funded adult places, and we have already allocated next years too! Money is very, very tight and seems to go to people already employed rather then encouraging employers to take on apprentices aged 25+ this is because the main aim is to now recruit 16 and 17 year olds. This is the governments aim, not ours. Im an Apprenticeship Advisor, how else can I help?Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0

Brilliant Kitty - I know of the existence of apprenticeships but not the finer details.

most apprenticeships go to 16 - 18 year olds but after reading this thread there are some that are for older people, only problem wirth that site is theres no apprenticeships in my area for my age group0 -
there is no age limit on apprenticeships, however 95% of apprenticeship fudning goes on the under 25 age catagory. Being one of the people that advertises apprenticeship vacancies on https://www.apprenticeships.org.uk I can tell you that although you can be considered for an apprenticeship most of the funding for this older age range goes to people who are already employed, rather then employers taking on people aged 25+ for apprenticeships! Wrong yes, but also true.Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0

Why does it matter about the age of someone wanting to do an apprenticeship0

Why does it matter about the age of someone wanting to do an apprenticeship
It doesn't.
The problem is that employers aren't willing to pay higher wages to someone who is an 'apprentice', as they lose them for a day a week or on block release.....and the training itself has to be paid for [usually by the employer - see my later point] - but adults need higher wages to pay more bills than a 16-18 yr old. So, because hardly any employers take up the opportunity, colleges can't put a whole class of students together to get the funding and thus; won't fund it. Adults learn at different rates and have a different work ethic than teenagers; so the colleges don't like mixing them.
It's a bit of a vicious circle; nobody says that they AREN'T available but nobody actually sorts out the funding and it is a whole lot easier to stick a class of 16-18 yr olds together that tick all the boxes than try and recruit a class full of adult apprentices.0
