I also start mine in the January sales so that I'm all prepared for xmas. I like to have the wrapped and packed away by the start of december so that I can relax through the month and enjoy it. People alwasy say I'm mad but at least I enjoy it!!!

if you get things so early, i.e. for kids, by the time xmas comes wont they want the "latest" thing out then? usually stuff gets released just before doesnt it?

and if you buy something for someone in january - how do you know they wont buy it themselves during the year? then you have to get some else ?

Firstly...I dont buy the "I've got to have the latest thing" thing. If I spot something that I think the child will like, and its a bargain, then into the pressie stash it will go.

As for adults...I am a bit more careful. But I do like to give 'interesting' presents. Something a little different that they may not have thought of themselves. There are also always a bunch of people who aren't classed as 'special' but whom you feel obliged to get something for.

For the women I tend to stick to toiletries anyway, stuff I know they'll love and can never get enough of. With men it's usually gadgets that they wouldn't buy for themselves.

With the kids it's a different matter, I buy what their general likes are, DS is into science so I can always get kits etc, DD will always be into Barbie. I don't tend to buy the "must have toys" anyway as experience has taught me that these will be the ones first discarded. Art and craft supplies always make the kids happy and when I spot these at a bargain price I buy them. Having spread it out over the year means I can usually pay out a little more if there is something that they really really want that emerges during December.

I will start buying the food in September, and then get another load of wrapping paper and cards in the January sales again :D

Started? I finished mine in September 2003. You've got to plan ahead. Just got to.
And if, you know, your history...
