Its scary seeing it written down.... 2024.... I'll be 48
Hello I'm 35 (just nearly notching another year) and have decided that 2010 is a new year....
I have a Virgin One account with an outstanding balance of £54969. I have OP £418.00 this year so far so thats a start. I have had this since 2002 and literally only just started paying off capital  I am so naughty. I couldnt see how I would be able to 'leave' extra in the account every month until I found some magic buttons which make the overpayment just disappear....
So that leaves me with paying £418.00 each month and it'll all be gone 1st Jan 2024. I always wanted to be mortgage free by 50
I run the family business but have had to take redundancy as of end March
I have another job lined up which is only 30 hours a week and means a pay cut of take home about £250 a month. BUT I can still work in the family business every Saturday ehich boosts the income by £223 a month and OH gives me £360.00 in housekeeping. I have a Cahoot current account as well as the Virgin account where I will pay the family business money into and hope to live on that and leave the other account alone...
I have lots of pets who are also economising
The cats are on dry food only now at £11.00 per month I am moving my horses tomorrow to a cheaper yard saving £25 a month and spring is coming so they wont need as much food. My horse costs £14 a month to feed as he's a chubster!! My dog costs about £15 p/m although one of the cats is under the vet at the moment so I have an o/s bill of about £50.00.
The 30 hours a week idea is so I can do more with the horses get us fit and the job is 15 miles closer to home so my diesel bill is going to go down by about £70 a month as I can cycle to the yard and the job is only 3 miles away. Working at weekends is something I'm used to so thats fine.. I have also applied for another part time job which if I get sniff of that then I can do that the odd evening as it out of hours.
I have a little debt which I want to get shot of too I have a Tesco 0% credit card with an o/s balance of £1047 and a Barclaycard with 40p (even though I paid it off last September the interest kept going up ) I have an outstanding car loan of £5250 with 29 payments left, if I can I'll lump some money off that too. I am owed approx 6 weeks wages at work which I should get soon plus 1 weeks redundancy so that will pay off the Tesco card saving another £100p/m
Time to stop rambling sorry everyone been excited about getting M and D free
:D:D

Hi DansMum
Welcome.
My cat suddenly decided he would only eat dry food so he's fairly cheap to run (although it has to be Whiskas or he throws it around the floor but it's still cheaper than tins!)
What's your OP target for 2010?
Good luck with it all - i'll look forward to reading aboout your progress!
PO xx2010 MFW Challenge No. 112 Mortgage paid in full 27/08/10 I was MF!!!
But now I'm not - (Joint) Mortgage £104704.New MFW target £5000 overpayments by 31/12/2105 £400/£5000 = 8%SAVINGS TARGET - £25000 by 31/12/2015 £13643/£25000 = 55%No 17 Lewis Lane0 -
Thanks Poppyoscar... My cats only on dry now, but have one cat who will probably have to go on a special diet which wont be so cheap... I buy them Omega tasty biscuits 10kg for £10.50. Wet food they'll eat anything hence the fact they're all a little porky:rotfl:
I hope to OP £2000 this year dont plan on OP November Xmas shopping in earnest. Leaves me 10 months and have already OP £260 ish this month.
The new yard which I have literally just finished moving to doesnt want paying until end March so payment in arrears technically I have £112 extra so will split it into 1/2 mortgage and half credit card...
Hope this weather improves I'm drenchedMFW 2011 No. 161 £946.54/£2000 TargetApril 9/15March 14/15

I would say if your car loan is higher than your mortgage then try and OP on that first.
Do you have a target, you should look at the MFW 2010 thread, its a great motivation to see how well others are doing and when you see someone become MF it spurs you on all the more. I really wish I had started this years ago now but hindsight is a wonderful thing!
Good luck with your new job. I am currently looking for one nearer home too to save money.
I am also 35 (36 in May) and am aiming to pay mine off in 9 years, when my youngest leaves school. Its great when you knock the months off the mortgage term
I find it helpful to put figures on my diary such as o/s balance, rate, nad term left so you can look back in 6 months time and see how far you have come.MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987
EMFD was Feb 32  NOW Dec 2013 its Dec 2016
MF new target Dec 16 REACHED!! :j0 -
Thanks for popping in Pammyj74 I'll hit the big 36 two months before you so will have to let you know what the late thirties are like!!!
The black horse loan has £5250 outstanding and I pay £175.88 p/m off that and last payment is Aug 2012  I'm not sure about the OP process on the loan so will dig out the paperwork when I get a mo.
Good luck with the jobsearch. I am not looking forward to my new one that much as its in an industry I was glad to get out of, but it could open doors with the right training which I'm going to get. At least its only 30 p/w which is the work/life balance I want. 9 years is not a long time at all!
Setmefree2 glad I didnt offend
I have just had some back wages paid today so I will pay some off the credit card and some off the mortgage will update when I work out how much.....

Oh dear it seems I could fall back into old habits.
I'm a bit of an impulse buyer, but not things like lippy, chocolate or even the odd nice pair of jeans etc. I end up buying expensive things. Like cars, tv's and bikes.....
I once bought a £14k car on a whim, got rid of it 12 months later and lost £7k.
I am now tempted with a new bike. I dont need it I have a perfectly good one already which is paid for, costs minimun to insure/tax etc but this one is beautiful....... Please demotivate me as I am going to lower wages and it would take almost all of my savings to pay for the difference to what I would get for mine to what this one is worth....:(:(
