Voluntarily increase Earnings Arrestment

Is it possible/legal for me to increase the deduction on my wages for an earnings arrestment(council tax)?

I have agreed an additional £20 per week (which is fine) but don't want to pay by any of their methods, I can either pay £4.50 on top of my payment at the post office or use a method which gives them my bank details. I am concerned they could use this to arrest my account.

I thought the easiest way would be to advise them and my employer of my request and just do it! I don't want to be losing almost 20% of what I pay each week in a charge to the postoffice!

cant you ask them for standing order details
  • If you request a Standing Order Mandate from them, their bank sort code and account number should be on there so you can use these to set up the standing order from your end (either go into your bank or do it on internet banking) and avoid giving them your details. that's how I pay my council tax.
