Wescot Financial Services

I wonder if anyone can advise me what to do? I received a phone call yesterday from someone asking me to confirm my address and date of birth (they knew my name). They refused to tell me who they were so I refused to give personal information. They said it was personal so couldn't tell me til they proved it was me, so I told them where to go, to which they replied they would keep phoning every day! Then today, another phone call which my sister answered, asking for me but when she asked who was calling they said it was Wescot Finance. She asked what it was about but they said it was a personal matter. I wasn't in so they hung up. I'm assuming they will call again tomorrow or Monday?

The only thing I can think they are calling me for is an old Virgin Media account. I cancelled my account last year (opened late 2006/early 2007, can't quite remember!) but they sent me a bill for £120 charge for leaving my contract early. I phoned them to say I was well over 12 months into the contract so could leave whenever but they said I agreed to a new contract in Feb 09 over the phone. I did make some changes to my package but I was never told I was starting a new contract. They claim I was as their staff member wrote it on my account that she told me. They sent me a letter saying if I didn't pay I would default notice, so I phoned and asked to speak to a manager about it and threatened legal action as I wasn't happy that I had been unknowingly entered into a new contract, and they took my details and said they would contact me. I didn't hear from them again, they never contacted me for payment, so I assumed the matter was sorted.

I have no other debts that I am not repaying as agreed, so I assume this must be why they are contacting me. what should I do?

If they ring, tell them you only deal in written communication, so kindly write to yourself.

When they do, send in reply prove it letter - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2

Dispute it and let it go back to VM, as the new contract was verbal they will need to provide the recording of the phone call, otherwise they have no proof and you can assume it was rolling on as such you cancelled without an early leavign fee.
Do note VM do charge a disconnection fee, even if your outside the 12 months.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
  • Thank you for replying. I will tell them to write to me when they next call.
