ok, so for favours we decided we wanted to do something charity related, and both of us had specific charities in mind, OH wants altzheimers, and as this has been in the press recently about lack of funding for research we are specifically donating to alzheimers research. They can provide me with ribbon pins in exchange for a donation which is fab especially as it turns out their colour is purple which is our colour. So really happy.
Then my charity is bowel cancer research - very small organisation, but i like that because they are the ones that dont get so many donations and i feel research is an important place for money to go. But, they dont do any badges etc but they have had people ask before and provided trolley keychains - fantastic again, but at £2 a go was a bit more than i was planning to donate (would love to do more but a budget is made to be stuck to) so thought about doing half and half rather than get both for each guest, but then the keychain is actually really good and useful which may make the ribbons look like were being cheap - even though the principle is that it was about charity giving. Am not sure what to do, i feel my options are
1. do half and half and who cares what people think its based on a principle of giving to our two chosen charities.
2. get both and go over budget
3. maybe make my own ribbons in a different shade of purple for bowel cancer research, and alternate them and just make a cash donation
what do you think? what would you do? any other ideas?

i think you should do option 1

If i were you i'd do half and half. People could swap if they fancied the other one, but i think that as the money's gone to charity then noone is going to feel miffed at not having the more useful item! If you have mainly couples coming then having one of each per couple would work.
I'd also make a little card to go with each explaining that instead of traditional favours you have donated the money to your favourite charities, thats if you dont already get those when u donate? What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
thanks everyone, i am swaying towards option one because i think it represents both of us that way. one other thought is to give the women the trolley keychain, as it is my choice of charity, and without being sexist it is probably women that would make the most use of them, and i think men care less about taking home momentos of the day. but i could be wrong, anyone care to jump in on that one please do!!!getting married: 02/10/10

thanks, we do have mostly couples and that was kind of what i was thinking. I dont think we get cards with them but i have little favour boxes to put them in and was planning on putting a pretty note in there.getting married: 02/10/10

I did the cancer research pins for my wedding with presonalised cards to place them on. TBH most of them were left on the table and although people though they were 'nice' were not so keen to take them away with them. I had to run round collecting them in before the hotel staff binned them when clearing the tables.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

thats so sad, i would have thought people would have been a bit more concious about a charity gift, though i guess at least the money went to charity so they werent wasted in that sense.getting married: 02/10/10

is it just for the women you are doing these favours for?
If so i'd do half and half, if your giving them to men and woen again i'd do half and half, one trolley token per couple is enough, theres no harm in making your own ribbons and adding a little note saying you made a donation the the charity on your guests behalfs.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!:T0
