Debt letter for previous tenant what do i do?

We have lived in out current house for nearly 5 years now and i am still getting letters for the previous tennant, most have been for small debts but i have had 2 now from a debt collectors claiming they owe £61000 i don't normally open them as i just stick them back in post 'return to sender' but these 2 have come with no return address on the envelope. What do i do ignore them? reply and say they don't live here? i don't really like having debt letters sent to my house just incase they came round or something scary and esspecially as the debt is linked to a bank.
Could the previous tennants be still claiming to live here or something?
thanks

Personally, I would write the return address on the envelope, and write across the letter in block capitals - NO LONGER AT THIS ADDRESS - PLEASE UPDATE YOUR RECORDS.
If they try to get in touch with you to find a forwarding address, just remember you do not have to prove that you live there, or for how long for. Tell them failure to update their records and stop contacting you will be deemed harrassment and reported.
Good luck. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Hi,
We've had a similar situation with an old tenant, I know we probably shouldnt but we opened the letters and called the Companies involved and told them that they moved out on x date 200x and could they take our address off their lists.
They did ask if we had a forwarding address which we didn't.. it took a while but they don't send anything through anymore and the guy was made bankrupt last year... the court sent us the paperwork by mistake!
I'd give them a call and let them know../ you may need to prove to them the dates you moved in, we had to with Bailiffs.
Good luck x:hello:Loan 1: £8300 -Loan 2: £20,000 (joint) Total Debt: £28,300:eek:DFD: June 2014

As above ^^^^^ and also...
Make sure that they are no longer on the electoral register, I just got my letter to update so I am guessing that most councils are doing it about now.£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)

When this has happened to us, i ring the DCA, tell them they have the incorrect address, then tell them the new one where they are 'hiding out' now
