Old debts at previous address, clean at an unlinked address for 3 years

Hi all,

I have old debts and I haven't paid anything off them in years.

I have been at two different addresses in the last 3 years and kept them clean, paid council tax, have utility bills etc and haven't applied for any credit at this new place.

As I have not applied for any credit at the new place, I am pretty sure my new address is not linked to the old addresses. My question is, if I apply for credit now at my new address, with 3 years clean history and unlinked to the old debts and addresses, would there be a chance my files aren't linked and I could get credit?

I am planning to pay the old debts, I just wondered if by some miracle I may be able to get credit as the 'clean' me.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Many thanks,

Bigfix

  • When you apply they would be submitting your current details for a credit check, as such your report would be updated with the new details. It is possible they will link two and two together and add in previous address for the last 6 years.

If there are old debts these would show, but also any debt collectors watching your file would be notified of the application and thus updated with the new address.

If you/employeer/creditor does a credit check on you these are likely to all show up. People on here have checked their credit report and 2 months later got letters of old debt arriving as the report contains a recent address.
Many people have tried running away from debts but they can easily catch up with you, registering to vote and other such things can cause it to trigger an update.

  • Why on earth are you getting new credit when you are obviously struggling to pay your other debts. Oh wait...you are struggling to pay those aren't you?
  • Thanks Dark!

I am not looking for any credit, I was just curious if they would link me by my date of birth or not. To be honest I've got two old credit card debts that have been provisionally deemed unenforceable and I'm hoping to get them cancelled, my credit file is ruined by the two defaults on these so my file is going to be ruined for 6 years anyway, just looking for ways around it but I suppose there are none.

I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

    Best regards,

  • The other thing is that I have been registered on the voters role for the last 3 years on my 'clean' addresses but creditors still try and contact my old addresses... Seems strange how they haven't found me.
  • Debts that are unenforceable are not written off, they are still allowed to place missed payments and defaults until the debt becomes statute barred, 6 years since last payment or written acknowledgement.

If you are registered to vote, i am surprised they have not contacted you.

It is worth noting if a DCA thinks you are avoiding they will get a CCJ against you at the old address without you knowing as they will serve papers there, and the debt will not be statute barred due to the CCJ. Then you have to fight the CCJ saying the CCA is invalid and such. So do becareful.
