    Iceland has had willow on offer for what seems an eternity always priced at 2 for £1.

    Willow isn't butter, it's "78% Vegetable Fat Spread with Fresh Buttermilk".
  • If you like unsalted butter, then Aldi has "continental style" unsalted butter for about 86p.

    I'm sure you can get salted butter more cheaply than that but I don't shop for that.
  • marks and spencers own butter is 85p i think or about that same as sainsburys basic but we like the marks spencers one

    Ah ok ty, its Sainburys basics that I buy just now. Not sure about Willow then, it's for the breadmaker.

    have you tried sunflower oil instead? that is what we use in our breadmaker.
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

    never tried it :) the breadmaker recipe book says butter so I just thought it had to be butter..

    You can use veg oil in place of the butter, I do. You can also use olive oil or any cooking oil. You can also use spreads, even Willow.

    Next time you use the bread maker give one of the above options a try. You may find you prefer to use butter, but the bread made with a substitute will not be much different.

    we've always used oil in our breadmaker. Recipe does say butter but I never have that in! And the bread is always lovely :)
