A&L mortgage break - advice needed pls

To cut a long story short, I'm in the process of changing jobs, and having finished my last job (with a start date of 1/8/06 for the next one), I will not have enough money to pay my mortgage this month.
I've just phoned the A&L and spoken to someone there who says I cannot take a payment holiday as I've never made any overpayments. I can miss my mortgage payment this month but it may affect my credit rating.
Has anyone got any experience of this or advice they can offer? I've always had an excellent credit rating and don't want this one-off situation to go against me. I'm worried sick now and don't know what to do. My wage this month will only be about 1/4 of what I normally earn
and I don't have enough savings to cover the mortgage payment.

As you don't have 6 months continuous employment atm, unlikely to be able to get an interest free credit card without lying. Therefore I'd take new contract to your bank and ask for short term overdraft until wage kicks in. It'll cost you in arrangement fees but that's better than a default on your credit rating - in my opinion, anyway.
Most banks ok with this if you have the documentation, AND have been a well behaved customer!Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0
