Make yourself a double-ended mortgage grid!

Having overpaid my mortgage for a few years, I've got 5 years left.
I've put a chart on the wall in the office with 60 boxes in a grid.
Each month goes by and as I make the planned overpayments I cross off another box from the start.
If I get a work bonus, I pay a lump sum, and take the appropriate number of boxes off the end. I can work out whether I'd like to by a gadget that will go in my draw, a newer car to depreciate more quickly, or boxes off the mortgage.
It's a great motivation as the remaining boxes dwindle...
I'll soon be a saver not a borrower!

How blindingly obvious - like all the best ideas always are!!!!
You're obv male though.... grid with crosses?????? Methinks gold stars at least are called for... of to freebies board to see if any about......
Seriously, great idea!!!!!!:j :j :j :j :j :j :j :jA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Good Call...
I'm hoping to start overpaying my mortgage soon so this would be a good idea.
Instead of crossing out boxes, I think I will burn a hole in them instead... A lot more masculine than crosses or stars!!

Hey,
I do this as well. I have chunks of 100 listed and colour them in as they get paid. It looks very pretty (I must be a girl) and motivates me. I too am working from 2 ends. Great minds!

would it be a bit metrosexual of me to get a smiley face stamp to put in the boxes?0

I'm hoping to pay mine off in 5 years too, so maybe I will give your idea a go - I have my little mortgage pig sitting there, maybe the grid will be a nice backdrop for him!0

What a good idea - after reading this I created a grid too but with 190 boxes (each representing £500) so every time my mortgage goes down by £500 a box will be coloured in
that sheet of paper will have to last a good few years lol oh well - 3 of the 190 boxes are already coloured in and I'm hoping that on the 28th that it will go up to 5!!

Thats a good idea, ive been wondering how i could do a chart to go with my mortgage pig, ive still got alot of years to go (think it would scare me if i tried to do that many boxes!!!!) but a chart to show every £500 being paid off is much more doable, then when ive coloured so many boxes, maybe i could work out how many years left i have, and start counting down the months then!!!!!0
