Hi
I'm finally getting help for depression which It looks like Ive had for a number of years and has caused to me gamble and have ran up about £14000 pounds worth of debt in the form of credit cards, loans and overdrafts. Sadly my dad thinks that my debt has cause my depression and not the years of bullying at school and other issues in my life and he always seems to compares me to my brothers who have savings which makes me even more miserable. Sadly I can't tell him the truth about what I was thinking about doing to myself and what caused this debt
It has now got to the points that I'm paying late fees and other bank fees before any other payments, Ive been trying to get a loan to consolidate the debt but am now refused loans, I'm just wondering what things I can do to help things along such as writing to the creditors and the banks and what I should write to help me, if any ones got any feelings on this please could you help and give me a suggestion on what I can write.

Hi linkslow
Glad you are getting help with your depression now. Hopefully it will help you not to put too much store on what your Dad says and his comparisons to your brothers -which really isn't helping you.
I would suggest that a couple of things you could do to start trying to take control of your financial situation.
Firstly write out a detailed statement of affairs - http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html - so that you can see exactly where you are at and where your money is going. If you post it on here you should get some helpful advice.
I would also suggest talking to one of these - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2077631
- for help and advice on dealing with your creditors. You may find that having them deal with your creditors takes some of the pressure off you - which can only be a good thing at the moment.
In the meantime don't apply for anymore credit - a consolidation loan is often not the best way forward so, although it may not feel like it now, it could be a good thing you were turned down.
With regards to the gambling - have you blocked yourself from the gambing sites? are you getting any help with this from GA or anywhere?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
