Asking for Bank or Credit Card Details

Options
Recently, whilst trying to source a loan, “Yes Loans” asked for my banking/card details as part of a credit check. I refused to give them these details and ended the call. Whilst my son was speaking to a prospective debt management agency, they too asked for his bank/card details and I told him not to provide such information, particularly as we had never heard of them.

Is this something which these organisations are asking for these days? Is it allowed/normal? Is it safe?

no, it's not safe.. they will take your money
and yes its quite normal as crooks are often asking for these details

yes loans are an unsuitable place to go for a loan
and which debt managment agency did your son go to?
  • credit / debit card details can be used as a means to verify your identity these days yes, but not for a credit check.

yes loans are scammers - just look in the loans section or run a search, then, em, run a mile!
  • They don't need your credit card or bank details to do a credit check. They would take them, charge you an admin fee at the very least, which you'd struggle to get back.

If your son needs a debt management agency - none of these would ask for his bank details - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2077631
