Astonished this isn't here already.
Apologies to Sue and all other non-lifestyle choice single mothers - it doesn't mean you, honest.

that sounds like an enormous amount of women and i can't believe it to be that many (not a dig at you Carol). i'm shocked!!
that is a shocking number of single mums
i don't have anything to back that point up by the way0 -
Oh !!!!!! ridiculous headline by the daily mail!
Guaranteed to ensure their blue rinse closet racist brigade continue to buy the paper.
No doubt the rest of the paper is full of "Oh if only Diana were still here" articles.
It's the hateful daily mail! They have an agenda!
Good lord. lir gave me hope in the human race yesterday. That hope has vanished in the space of 1 headline. I'm off to shoot meself or summat! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Shame they don't take into account that after relationship breakdowns some find it hard to trust again. If you spend a while on your own some don't want somebody living with them because they're not used to it,some are scared of it,some are just happy to be on their own.Among many other things,I don't think it's about wanting to be on benefits!!
This made me laugh 'Researchers called for more efforts to encourage young men to take jobs so that more young mothers will choose living with a reliable breadwinner over a life on benefits.':rotfl:
Good luck with that! Not sure how much of a difference they think it will makeIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
So the DM jumps from a, fairly plausable, claim that "the proportion of lone mothers had risen from 10 per cent to 25 per cent in the past 20 years" to a claim that "One in four mothers is now a single parent, having made a 'lifestyle choice' to rely on benefits"
Now that means that every single single (iyswim) mother chose to be so because of benefits. Thus there must be no, eg, widows with kids in the country.
Does the DM actually bother with sub-editors anymore?0 -
I thought it was serious until i saw the daily mail link:rotfl:
seriously why do so many take fleet street rag headlines as truth when so often they are misrepresentations of fact and sometimes outright lies:(
Many tabloid reports are often nothing more than opinion and fiction0 -
Also 100% of all mums have been teenagers.

To add further, the high single mother rate probably has a lot to with the 50% divorce rate.0

Just thought I would try for the editors job at the DM
But then come to think of it I used a fact so perhaps I failed.
