Beko machine with Littlewoods.com on quidco home page for link reduced to £259 - gives 8 % cash back and interest free over 52 weeks .. but don't know how good the machine is.....
  • Take a look at the clearancecomet website. They auction off their returned / dented / open box stuff and there are sometimes bargains to be had.

May I also suggest that, in the long run, it is usually cheaper to pay a little more initially for a decent quality machine. No need to spend top dollar on a Miele (unless you are that way inclined), but Bosch / Siemens would be my choice over the cheap Bekos, Indesits etc.

I've just bought a new washing machine (delivered on Fri) and would echo what Takecareofthepennies says about not buying a cheap one. In order to decide which one would best suit my needs, I made a mental list of my requirements and then went onto the 'Which?' website (I think you can have a month's membership for £1) to see what their best buy machines were. As Takecareofthepennies said, Miele, Bosch and Siemens are some of the best makes according to Which? and within those brands there are several best buy models.

I looked at Which? and customer reviews of several models (see the website 'Revoo' - think I've got it right - just type in what you want a review of). In the end I decided on a Siemens WM14S494GB, which cost around £540 from Appliance Deals. The 'Which' website gives cost comparisons from different companies - Appliance Deals came out cheapest for this machine. I did further research and couldn't find it cheaper anywhere else (it's £699 from Comet!!), so ordered from there. Delivery is only free on certain days and you pay £9.99 for them to remove your old machine. They also charged me £1.99 for using my credit card to pay. However, it still worked out cheaper than anywhere else and they phoned me the day before to give me a 4hr 'window' when they would be delivering (in my case between 11am - 3pm). You can also get 2% cashback from Quidco (not much I know but it all helps!)

The machine itself seems really good. It has an 8kg drum (so holds loads more than my old machine) and it has some excellent features like a 15 min superquick wash. Other quick wash options take only 45 minutes which is also great for stuff that isn't really stained. You can change the temperature and spin speed of different wash programmes too and there's a digital display telling you the amount of time remaining for each wash.

Oh, and also there's a FREE 5 Year warranty on this and other Siemens machines at the moment. (Or at least that's what Appliance Deals were offering).

  • Just to add: Don't be put off by the prices georgia1 quotes. Hers is a large-capacity model. Your "normal" 4.5 kg machines are cheaper.

Personally, I bought 3 machines from clearance-comet for other people as well as myself over the last 2 or 3 years, all of them Bosch (wich come from the same factory as the Siemens ones), all between £190 - £250 delivered.

Will admit, though, that I haven't looked at prices recently.

I have had 4 washers in 10 years, so decided to invest in a Miele & I can honestly say it is FANTASTIC!

I takes 2 men to move it, it is so solid.

Quiet when in operation & the washing doesn't come ot creased!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thast Priceless!

  • Dont just go for a cheap one. mine broke down recently and i went to one of those engineers review sites. Glad i did. you can spend the same for a dear model crap brand or the same on a better brand. gives you a run down on a full range of models. ones to avoid etc.

don't buy indesit, I bought a fridge, cooker & washing machine when I had a new kitchen fitted about 4 years ago & they all lasted 13-14 months. They were't cheap ones either as I stupidly wanted integrated appliances as it was a tiny kitchen. They all had 5 years parts warranties but indesit charged I think between 1-120 for their engineers to come out.

Hotpoint = v.V.v. noisy! Do not get if you want to remain friends with any neighbours that live below you, my mum has one, it is so loud she has the TV on the highest volume possible while the thing spins stuff. So not worth the headaches!
