Tax Question, additional work

in Cutting tax
I currently work part-time for a large supermarket and in September I will be doing some extra work for my husband who is self-employed, mainly clerical, of which he will be paying me a wage every week, my total earnings will still be under my personal allowance. Do I have to inform the inland revenue of my extra work even though I know it won't take me over my personal allowance, if I do, how do I go about doing this? Thanks to anyone who may be able to help!

Although the extra work will be done for your husband he will still have to apply all the usual rules of PAYE. When you start work he should send a form P46 to the Revenue. Since you will not be able to sign any of the three statements he should then deduct tax at basic rate.
Now you say that your total earnings will be below your personal allowance. It might be possible to convince the Revenue to issue a NT coding (this just means no tax is deducted). I would suggest you write and explain the position with details of your likely earnings and ask them to issue that NT code. It might work!If it’s not important to you, don’t consume it0 -
If you get WTC or CTC you should probably tell them when you start0

I'd Second Elaine's comments, but good luck in convincing the Revenue. Strictly speaking your allowances have been allocated to your employment at he supermarket any additional earnings would be taxed at BR and you could recover any overpayment after year end but its worth pushing them.
Another issue for your husband to consider is he will need to register himself/his company as a small employeer with the Inland Revenue and set up a PAYE scheme try the following for more info
