Officially Debt Free! (Thanks to MSE & DFW Nerds)

Woohoo!!! The time has finally come where I can put my hands in the air and announce that I am 'officially' debt free!!!

Having been paid this month, I now have enough to clear my outstanding credit card balance. This money is currently sitting in an instant access high-interest savings account whilst the credit card still has a few months left at 0%. I might as well do it the MSE way and EARN a little bit of interest in the meantime. :money:

For the first time in years I am IN THE BLACK!!!!!!!! I even have a couple of hundred extra to start my savings.

It feels a little surreal and hasn't 'sunk in' yet. I have a lot to be proud of and know that if it wasn't for my steely determination, I wouldn't have achieved it so soon. But that determination had arisen from being inspired by this site and hearing about everyones' achievements.

So A BIG THANK YOU TO MSE AND FELLOW DFW NERDS!!!!! :T :T

To all those that are still on their DFW journey...stick with it, you CAN do it even if it feels hopeless at times. Sometimes you may feel like giving up but persevere, your DFD will come...and maybe quicker than you think.

Take care everyone and stay cool today!

  • Fantastic news! Well done.

I am somewhat envious. But it does inspire us all. :)

What was your debt? (Sorry I haven't been following your story, as I'm new.) Get it in your signature matey!

At the start of 2006, I owed about £4,100 on credit cards in total, £4,500 on my car and £250 on a camera (buy now pay next year deal). I'd been a serial rate tart but hadn't been lowering my debt. In January I had a problem waiting for a new card to arrive which almost had me paying interest. At that point I decided that my 'tarting' days were over and that I wanted to clear my credit card debt. Coming on here really inspired me to clear ALL my debt. I sacrificed a lot because I practically became a hermit and barely had a social life. I also became a bit of a workaholic and stopped spending - there was no time for shopping! It's been a frugal seven months but boy has it paid off! Living with parents has also helped tremendously as I haven't had to worry about rent/mortgage. So to my parents, I am extremely grateful too.

    Thank you!

Now I've announced it on here , I feel more excited about it. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. If someone had said to me in January that I'd be debt free by July, I'd have laughed it off. My target was Christmas and it feels so great to have done it so soon.

Congrats, you are a start and an inspiration to all of us!!!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
