FTB - advice about husbands poor credit history and getting a mortgage

Options
we are looking at the 'lend a hand' mortgage offered by lloyds tsb, where we stump up a 5% deposit and a family member puts an additional 20% in a savings account that guarantees the mortgage. (effectively giving us access to 75% LTV deals) we have seen some houses in our price range and are confident we could afford the mortgage - it would be significantly less than our rent.

trouble is other half has a poor credit history, in 2005 he got into trouble with credit cards and loans missed lots of payments before his dad bailed him out and paid them all off. he also has a ccj for £100 from dvla for not taxing a vehicle (he had actually declared it sorn but they have no record, all the court summons sent to an address we no longer lived at etc) but anyway it is on his record from 2007. he has had no credit since and has no debts currently. My credit history is good i have a small balance on a credit card and a personal loan at £100 per month which is always paid.

my question is this - should we even bother looking? is there any chance we would get ofered a mortgage with his history, and if not, what can we do as we really want to buy a house at some point in the near future.

thanks
