Hi Guys,
I Have a outstanding debt from Barclaycard from 04 and have been contacted twice a year in writing from various DCA,s the most recently from Ruthbridge firstly addressed to occupier and now addressed to me asking me to contact them.
Not sure how much i owe as there is no reference to who i owe and how much on this most recent communication.
Would really appriciate any advise on how to deal with this issue and thank you all in advance

A debt will go statute barred after 6 years of no payment or written acknowledgement of the debt.
If you ignored the letters, they may have done a CCJ in which case the debt does not go statute barred, are you aware of any DCA taking court action against you, is it on your credit file etc.
Only once you know or strongly think it is SB should you send the SB letter. - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=11571227#post11571227
Otherwise you can do the prove it letter, - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2
Talking to them is likely going to then involve written communication/payment which will then restart the 6 year clock. When did you make the last payment in 2004?Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Thanks for reply,
I have not made any payment to any of the DCA companies since i barclaycard passed the debt to cabot in Jan 05.
I have had no CCJ sent to me and have not responded to any demand letters or come in to contact with any Door step collectors.0 -
Hi Charlie,
If your in Scotland then the debt is statute barred being 5 years, if your in England then you have to wait to January xx 2011 as we have a pathetic weak Government so it is 6 years.
If your only receiving 2 threatograms a year from various DCA's, just ride the last year out, if they escalate send off for a CCA request.

Not necessarily the Barclaycard debt, then. Could be anything. Could be a fishing trip to try to get you to admit someone else's debt. Definitely ignore them until something more precise crops up.0 -
Update .
I have checked my credit file on equifax and there are no entries for my oustanding debt does this make it more likely to be statute barred
