I have'nt a clue where to start!!!!!!!!

Hi every1,
over the past 10 years I have accumulated debts. Today I went to my parents house where i found a court letter for unpaid council tax (£1800). I spoke to a friend who told me my best way out of this mess is to declare myself bankrupt as I told them over the past 10 years I have probs amounted around £9000 of debt. I have changed adresses in this time so no letters are really coming anymore. In the past this has caused me severe depression and I have attempted suicide twice, I am scared that this will return and am really unsure what to do next. If I have to go down the bankruptcy road I will!! should i go on that experian free report thing so that I have all the information at hand before going to citizen's advice???

Between debt and health, health is more important. £9000 is not that great an amount compared to debts run up by some people on these forums by either necessity or stupidity.

Rather than dealing with debts you have worried over them which has lead to your depression. I would talk to CCCS (http://www.cccs.co.uk/ 0800 138 1111) tell them about your debts and how it has affected your health.
Bankruptcy will involve you declaring all your debts so you do need to know what they are.

For £2, you can get your statutory credit report, as there are 3 agencies this costs 3x£2 = £6. Experian, Equifax and CallCredit are the 3 Credit Reference Agencies. Your credit report should list most of your debts, but it is optional to report to them.

If you get a copy of your credit report you will be asked for all your addresses from the last 6years. That will effectively mean your creditors will locate you again. Usually letters may start within a month or so.

Can you try and work out what your debts are without doing the report (CAB or whoever would need at least an idea of your total debts).

You may be eligible for a DRO if your debts are under £15k and if your assets are no more than £300.

Do you own your own home? Do you have a car?

Another thing that will help CAB is if you compile an income & expenditure account to show how much you earn and what you spend it on - so they can ascertain if you are insolvent or not.

The DRO is a good option, something i always tend to overlook, nevertheless CCCS should be able to advise the best option.
