Wedding Cupcakes

  • I shall be making my own cupcakes :) We're getting married on 30th July so I'm going to make them one weekend in July, freeze them, then get them out to ice them two days before. Am going to a friend's house to ice them with her as my family's house will be manic with all the family over (big Irish family!). I'm really looking forward to having a little icing-haven session. I've bought a 7 tier stand on ebay for £24 which disassembles so in future i can use it with a few layers for tea parties. Also, because I'm making them myself, they'll cost pennies rather than pounds per cupcake. We're having 100 daytime guests plus about 30 extra in the evning so I'm making about 130 (mainly because that's how many will fit on the stand). I'm expecting that some people won't bother having one and some people might want more than one. Oh and I'm making a selection of standard size and little petit-four case sized ones (so it'll prob be more than 130 with little ones too).

    Sorry for mammoth post!

At the moment ours are costing £3 (£3.50 with lacy cupcake holders), but I'm getting my own stand and Mum's making the top cake, so she isn't getting any other profit from the day. We haven't started negotiating yet though.

Ooooh, me likey! I'm a little wary of cupcake towers as they may look a little messy/haphazard (especially if I made them! LOL!) but these look lovely!
Ladies - those cupcakes are beautiful!

Can I just say though, to anyone who's going to have the acryllic (self-assembly) stands, to be very, very careful about where they're placed and how they're put together!

I went to a wedding recently and the mum was putting the last few cakes onto the stand, which was on a table next to the DJ, and she knocked the whole ruddy lot down! It was awful. Really awful! It all went down like a house of cards!

The bride was distraught and was on her hands and knees picking up squished cakes from the floor! So, please ensure that your stand is firmly put together - I would even use glue to make sure?? - and that it's away from any areas of high traffic and that you don't let anyone too young or too doddery near it!

OMG, what a nightmare! Another thing to worry about! The poor bride! :(

That's a really good price Naf, is it from a cupcake company/bakery/someone you know?

Toothfairy4 have you ordered your cupcakes yet? I am aware that your wedding is in Tullylagan its just my friends sister owns a Deli & restaurant nearby and she also makes cupcakes etc so may be cheaper for you to order from her and since she's near Dungannon you could easily pick them up the day before. Let me know what you think and if you like I can enquire about prices etc for you?

Crumbs, I wish you lived near me because my friend and I make wedding cupcakes and charge from £1.00 per cake, this is a lovely buttercream swirl with a handmade decoration on the top,( a butterfly or rose etc). We can keep our prices low as we do it from home. :)

ohhh funny i was in St. George's market today and saw their stall. i always plan to have one of their buns but i always get drawn in my the french village stall orange and cranberry muffins instead!
  • I just saw this in The Times they suggest cupcakes are over - Bit of a mean and bitter article IMO. I dont care what The Times says anyway!

I never bought into the whole cupcake hype... always was like "they're just fairy cakes with nicer icing" and never quite saw the whole love for them myself! Then again - I like a good fruit cake myself... poor fruit cake, it's been marginalized as the betamax of the cake world :(

Mini cheesecakes on the other hand sound disgustingly nice.

we are having ours from http://www.wow-cupcakes.com she is fantastic, she has only just started out but is doing brilliantly, she did an official opening where we got to see her displays etc. Her prices are incredibly competitive, starting at £1.20 per cake, and they are muffin sized, prices go up if you want additional decoration, but i think i worked out that having a premier flavour like baileys and chocolate, with glitter and a fondant shape was still costing under £1.50 per cupcake! needless to say we booked her fairly pronto before anyone else could get our date! i highly recomend her for anyone in the south.
