Company say we have CCJ but we can't find it!

Very odd, OH received a letter today about a debt for £120 which said he had a CCJ. The letter had gone to our old address but we have redirection in place. We have never received any court paperwork and when we checked on experian it is not there. Very confused.

We are currently doing a self managed DMP and prioritising council tax arrears. This company was offered a token amount of £1 but did not get back to us. Obviously, if it IS a CCJ it will need to be paid as a priority, but if not, it seems a really sneaky way of trying to be paid quickly.

If it is not on experian does that mean it does not exist? Thanks

Have you checked the other credit ref agencies?
  • Are you sure the debt is yours? If so, contact them and ask which court the CCJ is registered with. You will be able to obtain a copy from them (with a fee of course.). If you don't recognise the debt, send them a letter asking them to provide a true copy of the credit agreement or proof of your payments to show your liability for the debt.

  • Hi, the debt is ours (well his ;)), but we received a letter saying they might go for court action, we replied with dmp token offer and the next thing we have is a letter dated 5th feb saying we have a ccj and we can either pay it all by end of jan :( (how when they wrote to us after this???), make an arrangement or they will get an enforcement order and send in bailiffs. Something strikes me as fishy to be honest.

I would check with call credit and equifax as they dont all use experian, think there is a list on MSE somewhere with a list of who uses which CRA, think it comes up on google if you search for credit reference agencies.

When did you get the letter saying they were going to go to court, and when did they tell you you had the CCJ? Have they been writing to your current address but are saying the CCJ is for a previous?

Edit : sorry just saw you have redirection. When did the redirection start? Are they aware of your new address?
