Lloyds Bank Loan Problem

Folks,

I'm looking for some advice for my girlfriend. She has had a loan for about two years through her bank (Lloyds) and has missed a number of payments during this time, for which they have added substantial charges on her bank account and loan.

She'd had enough of them and opened a bank account at another bank last year (think it's RBS) with the intention of paying her loan repayment into the Lloyds account at the start of every month. Last month she missed it by a day and has just received a letter with words to the following effect:

"you have failed to keep up with payment arrangements, your account has been frozen, return all cards and cheque books to ur closest branch .your account may now be referred for legal action."

I've asked her how much she actually still owes and it's in the region of £700, however, about £400 of this is purely accumulated charges.

I've asked her to call them and discuss how she could go about paying off the balance in full, closing the bank account with Lloyds (which is only used for the loan) and whether they'd be willing to remove some of the bank charges if we paid off the balance.

I've not really got any experience dealing with things like this as I'm quite self disciplined myself, but this is what I thought would be the best course of action. Can anyone else please advise? Is there anything else she should ask/do?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Hussain

Edit: she called them and the total amount owed is now £900, seems Lloyds removed an overdraft on the account without informing her which has resulted in even more charges :(

  • Hi

Speak to the CAB they are great they will help her, sort things out.
  • They would not freeze her account etc for being a day late.. you say she missed payments last year... has she been keeping up with the repayments recently but just missed this one or is it an ongoing problem of her missing payments?
