spring preparations

hello everyone,
this is my first post,so i hope im doing it right.

i found the preparing for winter thread really useful(fleece everywhere, lol)
and wondered if anyone had any similar plans for spring?

i just thought of gradually adjusting temps and timings for my central heating asspring hopefully approaches, and planning veg plot ,looking out for exterior paint on offer for house repaint after frosts have passed, building a log store for collecting fallen branches etc over the course of spring/summer,and rearranging sofas in2 their spring possition(in front of radiator,so cant do this til im not using ch anymore) and sorting out kids winter clothes that they will have grown out of by next winter to put up for sale

anyone else got any good ideas??

thanx!

  • I've started putting all coins, 50 cents and under, in a jar for spending during Boot Fair season! I've already got about €4.
I will also write a list of stuf to look out for at said boot fairs.
Have started thinking about and keeping an eye out what I can forage for the freezer and wine making.
I will start a plan for veg patch and buy some seeds (it's my first year:o)
That's about it for now x

  • How lovely to be looking forward to spring, I'm still busy trying to keep myself motivated to actually so something while it's cold and wet but once it warms up a bit I'll be cleaning cupboards, sewing seeds and sorting out the garden.

Already had a little go when the sun shone one day and have sown some tomato seeds and they are already looking like tomato plants. Must do some more but not now 'cos I'm nice and cosy indoors.

    Bella.

Oh, and my potatoes are chitting, so I must be coming out of hibernation - slowly.

  • I will be having a massive clearout at home and doing a car boot as I split with my partner recently so have a houseful of stuff that needs sorting.

I will also be washing curtains as soon as the weather is nice enough to dry them outside as they're looking a little dusty round the bottoms in the living room.

Planting seeds for veggies and salad for summer.

Clearing garden of all dead debris that the snow has left behind this year!! Poor plants :(

Wow this is so what I need right now! I have a poor bedraggled garden (not helped by the puppy digging everywhere!) that I have to breathe life into; a house which I'm sure could do with decorating and a jumble sale for the local playgroup to organise!

So next week I'm starting - regardless of weather. First thing I'll do is inside - I'm going to sort out all our stuff and jumble anything not needed; then regardless of whether or not we stay here (rented house) I'll paint the walls as they are looking so grubby - all full of filled holes from previous tenants.

Then when the garden is a little warmer I'll get out and tidy up and plant grass seed. I've already asked family if they have any plants in their gardens that they don't need - looks like I'll be busy around Easter, so I'd like to do all the prep now!

When we start to have nice weather I'll also wash all the curtains and although I have linings in them I think that I'll also sew in some fleece linings too - extra ones won't hurt and can only help in saving money.

I also need to sort through the childrens clothes and toys and all sorts as I can see for myself that they've shot up over the winter!

Oh by the way - the jumble sale I'm helping to organise is on 27 March for a local charity - the playgroup is a registered charity - so if anyone in the Salisbury / Andover area is clearing out and would like to give things to a good home - let me know and I'll come and collect.

    Thanks
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Spring?

Spring cleaning, uurghhhhhhhhh. Got to be done though. All these smeary windows. I hate cleaning.

I also usually change the curtains etc. Heavy ones for the winter to light ones for summer. I've got an absolutely neutral colour scheme so it's easy to make a room look different with a change of curtains, rug and cushions.

I also go right through the kids' wardrobes and sort out all the outgrown winter clothes. Get the boxes down from the attic and see what still fits them from last year, plus any summer stuff I bought them at the end of last summer in the sales. (I always stock up on neutral t-shirts, shorts etc in the sales.) I put away the winter jackets and anything that might still fit them next winter.

I do the same for us parents too. Then I write a list of what I need to top up for the summer by way of clothes, before I need them too urgently.

I sort out the camping gear, air out the sleeping bags and top up any supplies there too, like gas. I like to have the camping gear ready to just grab it and go at a moments notice, if we hit a free weekend.

And then there's the garden. And the allotment. Busy times....
    Val.

    What a good thread.

I will be giving the house a really good spring clean and preparing the veg plot. We have a small plot already but hopefully this year DH is going to dig another one .... :j Will have to decide what to start planting soon ....

In the next couple of weeks I will also be turning our heating down and turning it off earlier - it currently goes off at 9.30pm (it comes on at 5.30pm) - will probably change it to 9pm or even 8.30pm.

Yes your right...the last 4 days it's been lovely in the afternoon! Bought some hydrangeas today at Lidls to fill up a dog trampled flower bed! Think perhaps some thorny roses would be a good idea!;)
