Just been looking at funeral flowers, aren't they expensive, Nan is around £200 :(. I've decided to plant a willow tree when me and oliver have found somewhere to live. It's just so very very hard knowing that I will never be able to see her again or phone her...

A willow tree is a lovely idea. x

    tea,

I think the tree idea is just lovely, but as no one else yet has I guess I better caution...willows..anecdotally at least..have a particularly bad rep for causing subsidance if planted too near houses/buildings. I think it because they are very greedy drinkers of trees!

So, if you have to plant near a building might be worth thinking of other trees. Cherry trees are in blossom now, and a little before now, so the blossom each year might remind you of your Grandmother.Ornamental ones are the big pink blossom, eating cherries have white blossom..touch of pink but not as much pink as say, apple blossom The scent is divine and you'd get fruit if you went for an eating cherry. As are apples, plums etc are also in blossom now and would give you fruit. Other non fruiting trees are smaller things, maples are so beautiful in autumn and many, many small, non house damaging varieties exist. Two of my favourtie trees are the burnt sugar tree, whose leaves smell like...burnt sugar in the heat of late summer, and the handkerchief tree. Not so common in UK, but would grow here I think. Also in flower around now are magnolias, so pretty...and again, house friendly.

I love willows too, and I feel churlish mentioning it but its worth saying I think, about the risks!

A blossom tree would be so pretty and a lovely way of remembering someone. It would be out just at the right time of year too.

I agree with LiR - Willows wouldn't be my 1st choice due to their reputation!

I'm so sorry about the house/land LiR. It must be incredibly frustrating and such a shame your O/H won't go on Location Location - that would be so much fun! I'm sure the perfect house and land is out there somewhere not too far away.

Tea, a tree is a lovely idea, and should be around forever. It's such a shame that there is so much pressure on families to spend lots of money on funerals. Fortunatley for us both my parents are happy to go with the hospital disposal, no funeral and money behind the bar at the pub option,I think I'd like that too, but then we're that kind of a family. I do understand that to a lot of people funerals are really important.
