I have just spoken to Barclays when we paid our mortgage off and they said they do not offer a deed safe scheme as most are now electronically registered so you don't need to keep them safe. Guess it depends how old they are and if you find them interesting. Our house is 15 years old so will be electronic so I am just going to file them myself.

the house was built in the 1940s so i dont know if its electronicly registered. not sure if its better to keep the deeds myself.if anything happend to me would my dependants have any problems with the house .
  • You can check with the Land Registry to see if it is registered.
I would keep the actual deeds in a safe place at home. My house is registered, but sometimes small things may not be recorded; especially with an older property, all sorts of agreements might have been made years ago. I had a dispute with my neighbour and I knew that the document I wanted was with the deeds in A&L's Deed-safe, but it took several weeks to obtain them. If I had had them at home then I could have just shown them to the neighbour straight away and avoided a VERY large solicitors bill.
