Please help??

Hi, I dont know if i have posted this on the right forum but i need some advice.

Recently my Mum passed away and my Dad has been receiving bills in his name that my Mum had set up without his knowledge. He is getting quite distressed and refusing to pay them as he didnt sign anything to set these accounts up. There is 2 catalogues and broadband in his name. I have tried explaining to the companies what has happened but they are not interested. I am worried as my Dad is living on pension credit now and all his savings have gone on my Mums funeral. My Dad keeps saying he didnt sign anything so they are not his problem but then gets upset when demands come through.

Can anyone help me, is he liable???

Many Thanks in advance

Lindy x

    Hi

Any idea when she set these accounts up? If it is before April 2007, it will be easier to deal with.

  • Hi, thanks for replying.

No i think they were all opened after 2007??
They were all set up online so no credit agreement was ever signed.

    Thanks again

  • Sorry to hear of your loss.

Problem with online applications is there is a computorised credit aggreement that you just `tick the box`.
How much is the bills from these?
Is there anything he can sell from what your mum bought from these companies?

It is going to be difficult to prove that your father haven't taken out the agreements.

You need professional advice from the CAB urgently. Your father cannot ignore these debts, it could end up far worse by way of charges etc if your father does not do something about them today.
