If he is on commission can he not set his own working hours? If so could he not finish in time to pick the kids up (or at least on alternate days).

I have no idea if thats a reasonable price though - how many hours are they there?

Ellie, what happens to the children during school holidays? Are you absolutely sure you are not entitled to child care element?
  • They are there from 3 till 6 so 3 hours a night. The problem with the job is we took it thinking that he would be able to do his own hours, but as it turns out bettween 4-7 pm are the best times to catch people at home also when he's given appointment bookings by the company they invariably fall bettween those hours.

I've checked the Working family tax credit's thing, we are in a really broad bracket 25k up ... unless my wages drop below 25K then we can't get more help. Tbh i think it's only fair we arn't low income, i earn a reasonable wage there are people earning and surviving earning much less than us, where just used to bring in 50k a year, we've lost 20k and the adjustment is proving hard.

    Anyway abit of good news.

The OH made a sale today which earnt us £800 which means we can offically pay the bills for the month and breathe a sigh of relief.

Still we are going to re-assess the finances, $800 covers what it coes him to go out to work for the next month, plus pay's the shortfall in the month. Hopefully he'll make another sale before this time next month.

I will say this is no way to live, id rather know 100% the bills are going to be paid and some serious changes are going to be made.

Glad to hear he made the sale Ellie. As you say at least you can feel confident you can get through this month.
Hopefully he'll start getting more sales but even so it sounds sensible to be looking for all the cutbacks you can.

    Good luck
