Dell Personal Loan

Options
I have previously done buy now pay later with Dell and paid it off before the time and paid the initial deposit on purchase of the laptop I wanted. Last November I took out a new agreement on a laptop for myself, it was £1299.

It was buy now pay in 12 months with a 10% initial deposit. The laptop was delivered at the end of November and has been fine.

A few weeks ago I won a laptop, an HP Envy. I prefer the HP to the Dell and seeing as I won the HP for free I am considering selling the Dell as I won't use both and any loss I incur won't bother me, for the aforementioned reason.

Does anyone know, rather can anyone help me, am I entitled to sell the Dell or does that go against their agreement as it might be secured against the loan somewhat ?

Do Dell secure any of their purchases against loans/finance or are they all unsecured personal loans ?

Can I transfer the warranty across to the new owner ?

Thanks in advance.

Just a thought but what if you sold the HP rather than the Dell? The HP would be practically new so you'd get much more selling it than the Dell laptop. Not sure about the finance agreement with Dell, have you still got the paper work? You can normally transfer warrantys no problem, but I'm not sure how the finance affects this.
  • The Dell finance is an unsecured loan, not secured on the laptop.

Agreed. OP would need to check with dell whether the warranty would be transferable. I doubt it though.

  • Hi and thanks for the replies. I want to keep the HP its so much nicer and the battery life is way better even though power wise they are similar, (except the HP has way more powerful graphics).

There is a form on the Dell site to transfer warranties if you sell, as long as the time period is still good, for example within the 12months or however long it is.

Are you saying that as its not been paid for, but is unsecured, the warranty would not be transferrable ?

These loans are usually unsecured, so the laptop is yours to sell. The warranty has nothing to do with the finance, so you should be able to transfer that no problems :)
