Thank you, you lovely people

This forum is amazing, it helps so much hearing from other people in a similar situation. None of my friends really understand and I feel so guilty, ashamed and embarassed that my finances got so bad (even though it was for a variety of reasons, some outside of my control). Keep up the good work people, it's such a great support network. Keep smiling everyone.

  • I agree - I mention things to my friends in passing such as 'oh, we have a few bits to pay off so we can't spend money on x/y/z at the moment' but no way could I ever tell them how big the bits are that we have to pay!! It is such a relief to be able to be so open about things on here.
I could even be chatting to my friends on here and not know ha ha :)
  • I can't even afford to replacy my tyre with the slow puncture until the end of next month so I'm having to get my little foot pump out every other day. It's quite funny really.... you have to laugh :)

Can I suggest that you don't put your life or others in danger by doing this. It's very irresponsible.

  • So true piggy bank raider!

Most of my friends know I have a debt problem (and must be bored of hearing me say, oh, I can't afford that at the moment but it sounds lovely etcetc) but they don't know quite how big the problem is.

I aim to be like a swan, gliding along but with as few people as possible seeing quite how hard I'm paddling...:)

So it's really heartwarming to think I'm not on my own, I wasn't the first person to mess up my finances and I won't be the last and to just keep going with paying them off. Once my debts are gone I will be kneeling and kissing the hem of all the lovely posters on here who have given me bits of advice/a pat on the back/kick on the bum over the years! :T

It feels as if I'm not on my own, that paying off this debt is a joint game and we are all on the same team - if I gave up now and started to run them back up I'd be letting the team down, in a funny way?!
  • Keep plugging away. You will get there. Five years ago I was £30k in debt. Thanks to tips on this forum (and iron will) I've paid it off. In the last year i've started actually saving money again. (see my sig). Keep focussed and it will happen.

    Hi All,

Just wanted to say that I feel so much better since finding this site, just knowing that others are in a similar situation and it's not just me !! Lol.

I used to get so stressed and upset, with things going round and round in my head, would snap at the kids, ignore them (cos i was on another planet in my head.)

I think that what snapped me out of it was that one day I happened to notice that my sons school shoe was coming away from the sole, I picked it up and looked underneath to see a massive great hole. right through to his sock. He said it had been like it for weeks but didn't say anything cos he knew we couldn't afford new ones !! Can you imagine how I felt, I hadn't even noticed, every time I think of it, it still makes me cry.

I vowed there and then that never again would I allow myself to get in such a state over our debts, my children are more important than anything else in the whole world.

The debts will be paid at a rate that I can afford, you can only do your best, they can not expect more than that, but my family will always come first!!

Sorry about the rant, best wishes to you all.

  • Here, Here, I totally agree with all the comment's to your thread. Only come across this site about a month ago, after big move of house 2 years ago, increased mortgage etc, builders in, then OH had to take pay cut, better that than no job and saving pot slowly dissapearing, we to have debts now due to all the unexpected extra cost's and the same old thing put it on the cc and worry about it later :(....well now is later...and after a major look at finance's...we need to act now. Since coming across this forum I am slowly coming to term's with what we need to do to become DF but will probably take couple of years. Luckly we both work and that is the most important thing and all the extra hours will go toward's paying off debt's. I would like to thank all who comment on here, with some really good tips and advice, you are all really good people, and make onlookers like myself cope with what could be a very lonely road, keep up the good work.

I am now a regular at the local Lidl Aldi etc...BOGOF promotions and late night reductions lol.

Thanks again there is light at the end of the tunnel for all on here.

    xx
