FTB needs help with home insurance applicationfor our mortgage application

Options
Hi,

Im a FTB and in the process of buying a 2 bed house. We have arranged a mortgage with Abbey via a broker but we are arranging the buildings&contents insurance ourselves.

I would like help in knowing what date to put on the insurance application for the policy as we need this completed for the exchange and we are unsure when that will be. We are buying from a couple who have bought a chain free property. I contacted the broker earlier and they said we'll have to guess the date but i felt as thought they were being deliberatly unhelpful as we had found a better quote and policy they could and are missing out on comission or something! Other than this they have been really helpful.

Any input or help would be very much appreciated!

Thank you!!!

You need the policy to start from exchange of contracts.

Therefore you shouldn't buy it until you know when exchange is.

Shop around for quotes by all means, but don't sign up yet.
